Thanks Ben!
Will FUPC be able to offer a series of "Music in the Garden Under the Stars" events in the front yard of the church during some early evenings late this spring and summer, as we began to consider last fall, to showcase for the Inman Square community some of the talents that reside in our congregation (which they could then regularly enjoy by attending worship services)? ...Such as your great sense of humor as well as musical talents.
My leafletting for Jill Mattson's JillsWingsofLight workshop last summer indicated that lots of pedestrians around Inman Square love music and would like to stop for a few minutes to enjoy it ... the workshop venue was just too far out of the way.
Could Jill be invited to participate in such a Music in the Garden Under the Stars series, since her music (e.g., re: stars and flowers) inspired the whole idea? ...Could FUPC's relevant boards of overseers, Jill, and I consider how we might reach seekers and inquirers who might be attracted to Jill's healing music -- respecting Jill's considerations of spiritual matters as well as FUPC's to reach a broad spectrum of folks?
Fyi, Seven Stars bookstore in Central Square has sold ~5 of her book ("Transformative Power in Sound") this past year -- and is selling her CDs now, too.
FUPC could take advantage of its strategic location in Inman Square by enabling folks to simply step inside our front gate to sit for a spell and enjoy some music (and perhaps refreshments?) -- and hopefully get to know some of our congregation members, too (IF congregation members -- musicians and also audience members -- can find time to support such events through our attendance, of course). A schedule of upcoming events, including the artists' names, photos, and their music genres, could be posted in neighboring establishments throughout the summer so folks could know who is coming up when.
Have the elders and/or deacons and/or trustees had a chance to deliberate about such a series of Outreach events? I hope so ... the month of May is approaching quickly -- heralding the imminent arrival of summer.
Thanks much!
